Why do international fans feel like they are owed English content (1 Viewer)

In lives why do some international fans feel the need to ask idols to speak in English? Some aren’t fluent and even if they are, they don’t owe you English content

well, i've never thought they think of it as owe-ing. i just think in lives hearing that bit of english helps them because that's usually all they can naturally pick up? it helps you feel more connected to the idol in a way i guess.

like most things there are bad apples in every fandom - it's always the silent majority that gets drowned out by the vocal minority

I have no idea dawg but I haven’t seen any threatening when it comes to forcing them to talk english. Also, a lot of content from a lot of groups aren’t translated like at all

I remember on a live Key did and people were asking him to speak English (well, asking wasn't the right word they were just typing "speak English") so he replied to them that they should learn Korean.

It was a good clapback.

It's annoying to see the people who do that. Especially to an idol who has never in the past shown that they could speak English (granted if they don't know English they probably can't read the comments anyway). I mean, even if the idol does know English it doesn't mean they're confident enough to speak it. I am fluent in Korean but absolutely not confident enough to speak it or become a translator for people. (because the last time I spoke it I was laughed at for my pronunciation.)

It think it’s definitely odd to see people ask their faves to “speak In English” or say i love you in English or in another language. I think why they do it is just to feel closer to their idol possibly.

But, like k-netizens, i-fans can be very...proprietary? Very, "I am your fan and you should please me" type of thing at varying levels (which can range from acceptable to unacceptable). Them badgering someone to "speak English" is on one of those rather unacceptable levels.

I'd imagine because they're impatient and wouldn't wanna wait for it to be subbed and just ask the idol to talk in English instead. If you have to do that though it's pointless because they'll just go right back to talking in Korean as you should expect.

If people know an idol can talk English then just write a nice comment in English if they want them to talk English and it'll be more effective than being weird.

I hate it when they do that! Be grateful they're even taking time out of their day to give you content in the first place. If you don't like it, don't watch it. That being said, it's nice when the company provides subtitles, but that's on the company to do, not the idols.
