it’s actually pretty common for chickens to partake in cannibalism. Like some chickens will eat the eggs after laying and some will eat the newly hatched chicks as well.
It’s like once they get the chance just once it’ll become a habit for them. We had a hen like that once when it came to egg eating.
Oh and lots of chicken parents will feed their flock scrambled eggs (i do as well) it’s a really nutritious treat for them, also crushing egg shells and feeding them it is also extremely beneficial for their health (mom hens will eat the shells once their chicks have hatched so it would happen naturally anyways.)
