I don't have school at all today (teacher work day) so I'm just studying and chilling!
Oh, and catching up on homework, of course! (I only have 2 lol)

I plan on going to the library later to study and maybe check out a new book (after I finish my current one).

favorite genre to read?

YES!! I have today off work, so I slept in. I'm going to try to finish the book I'm reading and at least accomplish that today, lol.

Last night was my monthly book club, and the club voted in a longer book (517 pages) for March, so I'll need to figure out my reading schedule to get it done. I think I've got a couple of shorter books in my TBR pile still.

YES! Especially since my dog is very into her routine, so she let me sleep in a whole 30 minutes. So generous!

Our March read is The Once and Future Witches by Alix E Harrow. I've never read her, but I feel like a lot of the 400+ page books I've read lately, I've come away thinking the story would have been much better if it had been more tightly edited.

And I'm pleased that my next in line is amazing so far. It already has me laughing out loud at parts. So I can meet my goal of doing lots of reading today without also ruining my Friday. ❤

Something else! I was reading "A Gamble of Gods" which I think was trying to do a genre-mashup, but the book dropped the mashup when the different plot threads all came together.

I'll warn you if "The Once and Future Witches" ends up being more YA than the blurb reads like it should be! I think only one of the book club members has read it, and she liked it, but her favorite book series is A Court of Thorns and Roses, so... I'm not sure how much my taste aligns with hers, lol.

That's a good question! I don't really have a favorite but I love jumping around to do different ones. I do read fantasy the most often, though.

Okay, I'm 193 pages (37%) into "The Once and Future Witches" and my thoughts so far are: it would be better if it was more tightly edited. The language is beautiful, but very little has actually happened. I find my mind wandering when I'm trying to meet my daily word count.

So if you like beautiful prose more than you care about whether the prose is about something interesting, then you might have a better tolerance for it than I do! I've seen one of my other book club member's reviews has already come in at 5 stars, so it could totally be a me thing. I just feel like I've read a lot of books lately that have a perfectly fine story, if only the author would get around to actually flipping telling it.

Around 325. 😭 If I wasn't reading it for book club, I'd probably bail tbh. Since the action isn't very interesting, it's hard to stay focused and my daily 64 pages take longer than usual to crank through.

It's not bad, but I'm the same as you: unless it's a think-y sort of book, I want the plot to move along at a nice pace. But it's not a particularly contemplative book where the purpose is the slow stroll. It kind of reads to me like an author in love with their ability to turn a phrase.

I recently finished Stephen King's The Long Walk which was 300 pages about a group of boys walking until they died and that had more action.

Yes, this! You have no idea how many flashback scenes I've skipped through bc like... WHO FREAKING CARES WHAT HAPPENED TEN YEARS AGO??? lol I mean, flashbacks are fine if done in moderation, but when there's like five or ten pages of JUST flashbacks, I skip over it until the actual story continues.
This is a novel, not a history book!
