Well depends on which language you pick because between French and Russian it can be either

Romania has too, and it's so weird to switch from totally non gendered to gendered. Even the verbs are gendered to the object or subject. While in hungarian even the third person is non gendered.

Feel you on that hardship of adjusting :(

I’m in the situation where I learned both languages when young, so while it’s not weird for me to switch I still think gendering objects is a little silly and I do still mess up on which gender is for what in Russian from lack of practice (endings can help but there are exceptions).

Yeah, it is silly. Plus romanian has a 3rd , neutral gender, gosh 🙄 i learned since 3rd grade i think. But ofc its not the same as a native speaker. And OH DO THEY TELL ME EVERYDAY. WISH u best of luck ❤
Also to get back to the topic chair would be "un scaun, două scaune" - one chair - masc numbering, two chairs - female numbering, that has a neutral gender. (Yeah this is the way they differenciate it. XD dont ask, altho if there is a romanian that could explain it to me too...)

Russian has the neutral too but at least it has forms for all the genders and doesn’t have to resort to alternately counting in the other two genders
