Came around this insta confession post and was interesting how it has some truth. At least the bit about AI idols being perfect somewhat and having a big following. The newest virtual girl group Mave have 17m views on their MV. Which is not much compared to big names like Aespa but it is still bigger than other rookies that start with, let's say 100k.
I know there are other virtual artists like Hatsune Miku, and they are capable to do concers too. While i don't worry that much about them overtaking people, since in my opinion you can't really replicate a human COMPLETELY, esp artistically. HOWEVER it did made me thing. Does this trend with AI idols, with perfect choreos and looks, and MVs impact negatively on idols that have human flaws and all? Will people expect perfection from idols and if not turn to the technological counterparts ?

Also , lastly, did i write too much stuff for a simple question ?

please dont answer thisbxD

I also like them but I also understand the concern. For me, I feel like it's another way to make idols seem like not real people. Like they can be nasty, cruel, and mean to AI and nothing will happen...I think knetz and haters in general are already pretty nasty with normal idols but I feel like this just sort of opens another means to act like Idols are not human and maybe even escalate the cruelty.

Also this is just a pet peeve. But it keeps pissing me off how people keep making shorts of MAVE: saying "Idols who look like the MAVE: members"...like bruh. MAVE: was MADE to look like those idols not the other way around....it's fucking weird.

like you said, virtual Idols exist since quite a long time
it's just that Kpop only jumped on the train now lol so, people are curious to see what they have to offer

virtual artists (not just Idols, also virtual streamers and youtubers) are a trend that surely rose during the pandemic and we will see if it's a trend that will fade over time

Virtual Idols will 100% ruin all music if we allow it. I violently, vehemently, and passionately deplor virtual Idols. They will distroy dreams, ruin lives and degrade us as a species. Creativity and loving our fellow humans is what sets us apart as species. Virtual Idols remove both of those attributes from us.

Wow , yeah i didnt mention but u are right. And Jae's words ring in my head when he met a hater that insulted him and the hater said "You can't curse at me right? Cause xou're an idol"

For real , it is hilarious how they compare them. The obsession with beauty is too real.

Actually i saw a fun , short docu about virtual idols , and apparently there was one popular korean guy virtual idol in the early 2000s. But the makers ran out of money and couldnt make any more content xD

Yeah, human feelings and creativity is smth these AI idols can't replicate. Altho i do appreciate the efforts of the makers, and i don't mind them existing. I just hope it doesn't take over real singers who wish to perform on stage.

I guess what I should say also is that I celebrate the programmers, graphic artist, and engineers that do the creating. What I have a huge unforgiving problem with is the exec and CEO' who sees this as a way to avoid paying millions to a successful artist. Inevitably this will become a strategy to blackmale and cheapen talent in to working for less than they deserve. And if fans accept AI for even a short minute we may never get back what we lose. We owe it to the idols and artists we love to say . Go fuck your self AI. :pikagun:

I do not get the fascination with AI Idols, the part that makes me really attached to the idols I like, is the stuff apart from the music and performances and here the AIs have nothing to offer. :sanapray:
So brilliantly said!

ALL OF THEM
mmm I don’t see why ai and virtual idols have to be one or the other. I think they can exist together and do their own thing. I personally can’t see them ever replacing real idols. it’s not the same.

however… it is interesting to see how successful these virtual idols can get. Mave’s monthly listener count on spotify is over 2 million… that’s more than a lot of of nugu and mid tier groups so it’s like…. if ai groups keep up this level of success I suppose I could see companies becoming more interested in virtual over real and that would be sad if real idols end up being pushed out bc of this.

Still, I’d like to see the effects over time. Mave is new and basically one of the only really successful, fully virtual groups. There is aespa and superkind but they are a mix of virtual and real anyways so it’s not quite the same… I don’t like everyone being all doom and gloom when virtual idols in kpop are still very new and we need more time to really gage the effects and make full judgements. I do stand by saying that I don’t think they can fully push real idols out but i could see potential in making more companies less interested in debuting real idols overtime… so we’ll see ig.

It will become more interesting if more groups likes that debut, as the rest of them will not have the novelty factor anymore as MAVE already did it first.
