Movie One of the many things wrong with humanity (1 Viewer)

I promise this will be the last time I bring up this movie (for a while at least). Oh yeah and spoilers for I Am Legend (the movie, alternate movie ending, and book). I Am Legend wasn’t written to be a feel good story. It’s had a point, and had the main character realize that in their eyes, he was a villain harming them and their society they’ve built. He’s a legend, not because he’s amazing and great but a monster type of legend. The movie had 2 endings, one that was a nice feel good ending. They found the cure and main guy dies but the other two manage to make it to a colony of survivors and give a speech about how he’s a legend. That’s just a bit off what the point was. The alternate ending is closer, the main character survives with the cure and escapes but he realizes that he is a villain to them when he finds out they don’t want to kill him, but want the wife of one of them, who the main guy captured and experimented on. He releases her and they leave but he does realize he’s not the righteous angel he thought he was, and to them he’s a monster. Not quite the same as the book but closer. However, they decided on the feel good ending because test audiences hated the alternate ending because they didn’t like the fact that the character they followed was a villain. Therefore, they went with the feel good and got rid of the whole point of the book. I guess yeah money is wanted but idk I’d have just picked a different more standard feel good book if you want that and leave this one to those willing to tackle difficult topics.

The book came out in the 1950s so I’m sure it passed under many peoples radar. It has I think 3 movie adaptations too, including the Will Smith one. I didn’t watch any in full but they seem to all suck from the description (the first one probably the least).

Book is way better than the movie. And vastly different. I don't even think it's appropriate to compare the two.
