For those with mental health problems, what's the most "dude what" treatment you've been recommended? (1 Viewer)

Mine was my grandmothers advice. She asked me if I would consider converting to Christianity, and that if I did god would cure my depression to me. I may not be super knowledgeable but I'm pretty certain that that's not how it works, whether it's all real or not I don't think it's as simple as converting and boom, your major problems are solved.

Several years ago my anxiety was so bad that I couldn’t even leave my neighborhood without panicking. My doctor needed to see me because of it but there was no way that I could see them, so the lady on the phone asked my mom if I could possibly be blindfolded and taken to the doctor that way. Like no you dumbass that will make me feel worse

That's honestly.... Not gonna say anything, it's your grandma.
As a christian myself, (altho i wouldnt be considered a good christian by your grandma's standards, me listening to kpop and watching korean men thrust their hips on stage xD) i do thing there is a stigma in the community. I have heard not one time that you need to put all your faith in God and then u won't have any worries.
Thankfully i do know many christians who decided to go for therapy and psychologists, knowing how it's not just a pray-it-away matter. My mom being one of them. After numerous trips to the E.R. caused by heart palpitations and honestly panic attacks, both my conservative christian parents decided Therapy and medication would be best.

I’ve had the well-meaning ones that don’t help like “go for a walk”, “take a shower” etc. But I think the worse one was when I was told to not be so depressed because “other people have it worse” or to “stop feeling sorry for myself”

When I was about 4 or 5 I went to a hospital for an "official" test for Asperger's. They said I was too smart. Even I had a feeling that wasn't how it worked

asperger doesnt even affect intelligence in fact many aspergers are really smart and do good in what they do and find interesting . And since they have tendency to deep dive their everything into things they are passionate about with their all aspergers are often way above average in their job.

Years ago I saw a doctor and I wasn't depressed I just wasn't breathing right. I didn't need therapy or pills. I needed breathing exercises. Shockingly, the karate kid breathing exercises didn't help, but prozac did.

I’m not defending your grandmother because I know other weird things she’s said that you’ve said, nor am I Christian, nor am I religious, but I think (for some people not all) religion helps them because it gives them hope when they otherwise wouldn’t have any

my doctor made me go to this mindfulness group therapy when i was 21 and my memory has erased most of it but my blood boills just thinking about it
