My little brother (9 years old) was asked if he knew about WW2, which he said yeah of course he did. So we asked him who were the "bad guys" in it, which he didn't know. So we finally asked who just one of the "bad guys" were and he hesitantly says the British Obviously it's not as simple as good and bad but if it was a bad and terrible I think the British likely wouldn't be on the terrible side in a lot of peoples minds for the European part of WW2 specifically.

I'm not saying that historically Britain treated other countries well. I'm saying specifically for the at that time for the European part of WW2 Britain was probably unlikely to be considered worse than the Nazis by most people. It's a low bar.

I'm not saying that historically Britain treated other countries well. I'm saying specifically for the at that time for the European part of WW2 Britain was probably unlikely to be considered worse than the Nazis by most people. It's a low bar.

certainly yes, that i very much agree (and should have included in my post damn). the brits were by no means the good guys, they were the less bad guys (only because you had the motherfucking nazis on the other side).

Well yes, which is why I specifically said that in my original post and why I put quotes around good and bad. But when you consider that a 9 year old in the west is unlikely to know much about colonization and that stuff yet and is likely to know only about the European side of the war (plus maybe Japan) if anything at all about WW2, that’s why I specified the restrictions in my post.

Australia will never actually be in danger of invasion. Who wants a huge desert where even the cute animals want to kill you. But seriously, if Japan would have invaded Austrailia Britain couldn't have done anything until the Nazi's fell. And for all of Churchill's faults he was literally trying to save the world from one of the greatest evils we have ever known.
