And I don’t mean for diplomats and stuff, I mean for common people. Inspired by me randomly remembering a convo I had with rando person on an airplane, which is when I discovered that some countries have internal and external passports and they’re both called passports. Ones for traveling internationally and one as a countrywide id (I think the US is trying to set up something similar? But it’s not called a passport). So anyways, does your country have that, or just passports for international travel?

i have two russian passports, and only one international belgian passport. within belgium (and the EU) we use identity cards instead of internal passports, i guess they serve the same purpose. tho a card is much more convenient than carrying around a little book everywhere

Technically I have 2 Russian ones too I think, an expired one and normal one obviously not two types though. But Russia was the country I thought of for internal one

a mandatory internal usa passport would be against the constitution 5th amendment. cannot be deprived of the right to travel with out due process. the 14th expanded on that.

A State id will serve for flying they are wanting a new format (called real id)with a barcode if the og state id did not have ne by some date, but even that is not necessary to fly domestically. they will make your life annoying but you do not have to have id to fly.
Just like you do not need id as a usa citizen to just wander around nor go from state to state- city to city.

Driving is a privilege and thus can be regulated.

Yeah, I didn’t know you need to take your birth certificate to get it but it sounds similar in some ways to an internal passport to me, which is what the real is reminded me of theyll have fun with my certificate lol

Functionally most ppl pay with a credit card already claiming an id, and have a drivers license. the prevalence of phones and the snooping that is allowed also make it so most just consent.

its another irony that there is a fight against id to vote (which is spun as a racists poll tax) (and supporters claim is insuring a vote per person), but zero fight against forcing ppl to show id to travel which is an enumerated right which can only be taken away by due process.

I’m guessing doable for some people, not for others. I feel certain groups would never be allowed through without an id.

Which is wrong, fundamentally flying is not different than walking riding in a car / bus ect..

Well yes and no. It’s there for the same purpose but as has been seen many times something going wrong with an aircraft can lead to lots of death because of the situation, whether malicious intent or accident. Car, bus, ect can also but usually not to that level in one go.

Yes but that is an argument of scale/fear the government need to protect you against that crazy person, just give up your rights and they will keep you safe. And then they will invent something else to protect you from just surrender yet another right.

Tbh it’s not your fault but I just find that a lot of people who think this way are huge hypocrites. Yes, rights are taken away at times, sometimes very small, sometimes larger, but often small. They’re totally fine and support taking away rights from those they don’t like though. No idea if you think this way or not, but it’s just what makes me eh about people who complain about their rights being at risk.
