Why am I like this with romance books… (1 Viewer)

Unless I really love the couple together (which is very rare) I get incredibly bored once they “officially” begin dating. It might be because irl with romantic relationships I’m just very meh with the idea of them.

But I like romance books that also have interesting sub plots to keep me reading whereas the one I’m reading I feel like everything’s slowed down and solely focused on the romance. Which I mean, I know it’s a romance but I just want more from a book than one single thing I guess??
I’m fine with it focusing on the romance, I just need some drama to keep me invested, and no drama that involves miscommunication because that’s very annoying and just makes me annoyed with the characters.

Is anyone else like this?

Btw the book I’m reading is Take a Hint Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert​

Yeah I wouldn't want to read a romance where it gets boring once they're together. And instead of being meh about romance, I just feel like the story's supposed to get better once they end up together.

Any book I read with romance usually has it as part of the background. But I think the one I'm borrowing tonight might be different.

Exactly. I feel like authors want to have a few chapters to get readers accustomed to characters being together but for this book particular they’ve been “fake dating” the majority of the story and it’s just dragging now so I see no point in it personally.

Yeah, i think u don't match the romance genre. Maybe u like action with a hint of romance at the side.

You need a romance book with the couple being enemies and then lovers. It's fun to see them try to kill eachother and then kill to save the other at the end. XD

I'm the same way with writing romance. Like, I'm always stuck after the first date... it's like, "Okay, they've dated for the first time and want to see each other again. Then what?" lol maybe it's because I've never had any romantic experiences beyond crushes.

I do like romance books, I’m just very picky
But my favorite trope is enemies to lovers so you’re on point there

I think people who haven’t dated can write about those sort of things, I assume it just takes practice and reading other things within that genre.

oh I was reading another book by the same author and didn't finish it, I dropped it because I got bored :")
I'm the exact same, for me with romance I need interesting characters or a subplot to carry the story
I read people we meet on vacation and thought I would get bored when the characters finally ended up together but I wasn't because I loved the book and the characters had a dynamic I wanted to keep reading about even past their long process of realizing their feelings for each other~
