Hi, I see this as a common debate about kpop. As someone under and well involved in the Entertainment business for 6 years I wanted to talk about my personal experiences.
As you know some idols have to diet, this is usually present if you're doing something competitive (at my company!) I have had to lose a certain amount of weight or maintain a slim weight for performance, this can be very stressful and leads to tiredness because you're not eating enough nutrients. The lowest I've had to go to is 95 pounds. This can cause more problems with self-esteem and even you can develop and ED.
Training and practice take hours, going over the same steps over and over again until late hours, going into the studio at late times to practice. It's very tiring and if you're dieting it's even worst, the coaches at my company are very strict and harsh. They provide feedback and don't spare your feelings, that is a major thing that you have to get used to.
Your appearance is another major key, you have to be very clean and make sure you look presentable on stage no matter what, you can get punishments for messing up, being late etc. I've only had a couple penalties for facial expressions (training for longer periods of time) to make sure it wouldn't happen again. When practicing as a group you have to be in sync, this includes looking the same. It's very important.
Please take these intro consideration before assuming something.
