Firstly, just know that non natives will most likely speak better standard English. Native speakers can rarely, if ever, English properly.

oh ok. If it’s a multiple choice question looking for what is not a definition of a word from a text, look for the one that doesn’t fit in the same group as the rest of the words.

Mischievous is not pronounced "mis-chee-vee-us." There's no "i" after the v so it's just "mis-che-vus."

Also remember that the placement of words, punctuation, etc. can entirely change the meaning of a sentence.
A classic is:
Let’s eat Grandma! vs Let’s eat, Grandma!

There are two separate ideas being talked about in his sentence:
1. People suck at punctuations
2. People really suck at commas, semicolons and colons

You can use a comma where he did but it's not as grammatically effective as a semicolon. The semicolon bridges two ideas into one sentence and eases the use of commas.

what i was doing was specifying though, which can be argued to be more effective as a comma.

The word "especially" just feels like an abrupt hiccup in the middle of the sentence; the semicolon adds a good pause.

If you don't want to add the semicolon, I'd change the word "especially" to "like"

"People suck at using punctuations like semicolons, commas, and colons."

It sounds more like a flowing sentence as opposed to "People suck at using punctuations, especially..."

It might just be how I personally read the sentences though
