Why do the vegetables at farmers markets look so much bigger than those in the grocery stores? (1 Viewer)

We got these green onions (amongst other vegetables at a farmers market this morning) and the bulbs are literally the size of small onions 🧅



Just how is that possible?​

The stuff i. Grocery stores is nearly last pick since their profit margins are low. Restraints, manufacturing and high end stores get the good stuff. If you want good veggies go to a farmer's market or buy directly from farmers.

I buy from farmers markets this time of year because I like fresher foods. Unfortunately in canada its hard to come by in the winter

Well when talking green onion bulbs specifically it doesn't necessarily have to do with farmers market vs grocery store, since there's more than one type of green onion and some grow bigger bulbs than others. But it could also have to do with the time they harvest them. People tend to prefer younger green onions for flavor and because I think people find older onions tougher, plus it probably has to do with the fact that it must be quicker to harvest when young. Other than green onions I don't know anything about farmers markets vs grocery stores for fruits and veggies
