So I have family over. I call her Tar Aunt because she's hell, her husband (dirtbag) and her 2 kids (youngest nightmare and the older one I actually love, she's very chill).

When my pup passed away and the news broke to the family, Tar Aunt texted me soon after saying her youngest had a meltdown over the news. I didn't really have a response to that at the time and I was pretty much numb.

Tar Aunt has met my pup only once or twice and the youngest never really interacted with my pup.

While she's here, she brought up how her youngest had a "meltdown" over my pup's passing a few times.
I don't know if I'm being sensitive or what but I find it annoying and weird. The kid barely interacted with my dog and Tar Aunt is pushing what feels like a narrative.
To me this feels like a play at sympathy points or something. Like I feel like she's using my pup.

She could be trying to hit a nerve. I never thought about that. We had a falling out many years ago over something serious and since then she's constantly brought up things she's paid for me and vacations she took me on (which o.o funny enough I found out my dad paid for afterwards).

I don't understand most of her motives. Sometimes it's attention seeking, sometimes it's 'look at what a better life I have compared to you,' sometimes it's straight up confusing when the facts are different from what she's saying.
Time to demise a plan to make sure she doesnt sleep over at my place.

It's exactly that. Backhanded comments are meant to uplift the person saying. If i diminish this person's joy then they will be as miserable as me and i wont be jealous of them.
