The thread on Beta fish [Chineses (Siamese) fighting fish] got me thinking about how what we call things changes over time. I grew up calling flip-flops "thongs", which to be honest, I find incredibly amusing. My younger sister grew up calling flip-flops, sandals. It's a running joke to ask where our thongs are because it grosses her out.

I only have a pair of flippity flops because I just recently went to the beach, got my sneakers soaking wet and didn’t want to walk around all day in wet shoes.
