EXO: the vocals and the music (I love that 90s-00s r&b). The fact they were fine as hell was just a plus. I liked their dance and performance too, but it was really the vocals.
NCT: the vocals and the music (again with the r&b plus I love hip hop - I love their swagger). I passed on them for a bit and then they brought me in - I always admired their dance and performance and now love it to bits - no one else is like them. First NCT U and NCT 127 (Taeil! Doyoung! jaehyun warming it up, Haechan adding the seasoning plus a pair of great rappers in Mark and Taeyong. I like Yuta and Jungwoo and Johnny too but the voices that brought me in were the mains), then WayV when they launched. It took me until Hot Sauce album to vibe with Dream. Also fine as hell, lbh.
Purple Kiss: the vocals and the music. Dance and performance a plus.

I grew to get and know and love the personalities of EXO and the NCT units but that's not what initially attracted me. I always fall for a voice (or voices). I can pick a voice out of a group before a face or a name.
For Purki, it really is about the vocals and music and performance and I don't know as much about them as people.

This is how finding out which one Taeil (NCT) is. My friend shows many photos of Taeil then shows a photo and asks which is Taeil. I cluelessly point at Jaehyun. Then a clip plays where Taeil starts singing partway in and I immediately go “that’s Taeil”. Im not joking either, she tried to work with me to get me to recognize Taeil by showing me photos and pointing out Taeil in group photos and then quizzing me and I think I picked Jaehyun more than Taeil iirc. Taeil was definitely not at the 50% mark either

I'm often of the opinion that obviously as human beings we see another person or group or thing first before we hear them and thus (maybe I'm being pedantic) but doesn't one see a kpop group before they hear them?
and therefore in absence of any other external factors doesn't that mean that one is drawn (aka attracted) by what we see first in order to then listen to said group?

Like many have pointed out you don’t need to see them before hearing your music. You don’t have to see them ever realistically, though those of us who can see probably will see them at some point. I have an anecdotal one about Vixx too, their songs came on shuffle in the car and I was like wow this groups music is so good. And even when I see them first I don’t learn them right away so I don’t see how I could get into say NCT because of visuals more than music when I can pick out the song easily but put an NCT 127 member into a horde of kpop idols and I’d be none the wiser (at the time and maybe present day too). Not to mention there’s many attractive idols, but obviously people don’t stan the entire industry, and they can easily stan idols they find less attractive than idols they don’t stan. This went longer than I expected but yeah, visuals can very easily not be what attracts someone to a group for many reasons.

Anyways, to finally answer the question, I was of course anticipating them because many idols I liked would be in the group, especially Ten and Taemin. The concept seemed fun, and the potential of the group was definitely high.

Yes. I became a fan of Red Velvet while listening to their songs in the car. No MVs, no choreos, no variety shows. Just the music.

Even today, the Red Velvet concert numbers I enjoy the most are the ones in which they sit or stand and just sing.

interesting like I said to vikki above - what is your understanding of "attraction"my friend?
one can be a fan without being attracted to the group and vice versa one can be attracted to a group without being a fan

and thus what is the difference then between someone who is a fan, someone who is attracted to the group etc etc

For me attraction is what attracts me to them and makes me want to know more about them. I enjoyed the music and whatnot and looked more into the group because of that. I think that’s attraction.

Attraction doesnt have to go down the "love" or "sexual/physical" attraction route.
Since attraction is defined as "the action or power of evoking interest in or liking for someone or something."
So attraction doesnt mean infatuation.

Low bar as in? People get attracted to a group or music easily? Maybe. I have had 3 bias groups so far. Vixx, Shinee, Stray Kids
Vixx basically became inactive, Shinee chabged their music style which wasnt my type, and i discovered my live for "construction music" with skz.
For Vixx i for sure discovered them zhrough MVs.

Yeah that's why i asked for ppl's bias group.

We akready know now why we like our groups that we followe. We listened to most of their songs, know most of their personalities (or what they show us) so we have a clearer picture.

Just like with friends, you already know why you are friends. But it's interesting to look back on how you met or how u became friends.

For groups that didnt become my bias: Ateez. I still really enjoy them, and i have known of their music before. Usually fans of skz are also fans of ateez, but im not. Its not even a rivalry thing, since i really enjoyed their mayfly activities and still like their music but i cant get into the group. ....

might get hate for it, but some of their songs are very formulated to old school kpop. I dont enjoy high notes as the peak of a song anymore. It got boring after 11 years. But that's just me. Occasionally okay, but ... Yeah

interesting so from the voices that drew you in (obviously if you remember) the question is what factors then separated those group/artists that went on to become one of your favs vs those that although initially drew you in but later fizzled out for one reason or another (I hope I'm making sense lol)
