I'd agree with this but I'd also expand on your idea Cupid and also say that sometimes it's not about the music while for others it's entirely about the music. For some groups it's the members but not all the members, just those ones that really stand out to me.

With VIXX, I discovered them in 2017 but didn't say I ulted them until around 2020 when I realized that they were a group that I always wanted to support. Even now, that hasn't changed. They released great music and I'll always cherish the feelings I have toward them and the feelings I got to experience when they had their last ot6 group comeback. It took years to realize that this was how it felt but it also made me feel that I would always support them going forward. This and the fact that Cha Hakyeon is part of that group I look up to him a lot and he's a role model to me so that factor probably helped solidify VIXX as my ult.

personally i don't really ult any group precisely because of this reason: i struggle to define when i "ult" someone as opposed to when i stan them. for me stanning is (a) listening to and (on the whole part) liking the entire discography at least once (boa's a teenie meenie bit of an exception but shush not my fault she's got a vast discography befitting someone who's been an active idol for 20+ years!) and (b) i keep up with (some) of their content. like, as much as i love f(x)'s discography, i don't keep up w any of the members, so they're firmly in the "casual" list. so some groups are my main focus at some times, while others are not. it's fluid, hence i can't decide when i "ult" someone or not.

i do have ult biases, though that's kinda fluid too, cause like if i'm paying more attention to a group at a given point in time, i'm also paying more attention to my bias in said group. like look at me. i have a taerae layout. he isn't an ult bias or anything, it's just that i'm paying a lot more attention to zb1 these days, so i'm paying more attention to my bias within zb1... who happens to be him.

3) When they're one of the first groups I think of listening to when I open iTunes

When I love the majority of their music, love the members and in general feel more drawn to them more than other groups I like. I don’t necessarily base it off how much content I watch of a group tbh, I sometimes go months without watching anything of one of my ults.
