TLDR: A family has hiked the Appalachian Trail (2,190+ miles or 3,524 km), Continental Divide Trail (3,100 miles or just about 5k km) and are now hiking the PCT (2,650 miles or 4,265 km) as a family. Their ages ofc changed through the trails but currently on the PCT the parents are 44, the oldest kid is 14, then 12, then 9, then 7, then 2 years old. And they’re all hiking

how does one hike for so long with young children, let alone a 2 year old? And why would anyone even think of this? I also do have to question how one gets pregnant on a backpacking trip with kids, when I’d imagine there’s little privacy from the kids because of tight quarters. But I try not to think about that too much. But it’s also hard not to.

Kids are easily distracted in nature. Nature is the sexiest place to have sex.

They’d have to be majorly distracted. Also they can’t exactly do that mid hike so it would have to be at the end of the day, unless they wandered off to make an accidental kid at night without thinking about possible dangers for kids in the wilderness at night with no adult

So also not a great option.

Kids are exhausted hafter a hard day's hike. Let them pass out, wander off and have your fun. Or more likely, have the 14 year old baby sit while mom and dad have a "picnic". or youngish stay here while mom and dad find fire "wood".

This was 3 years ago so he'd be 11 not 14

Which wouldnt exactly be toddler but a bit young to babysit the others in the wilderness. But anyways this is enough thinking about how it happened. I'll just assume it was in a reasonable non traumatizing way
