Rocket Punch’s release was great, Riize too Kim Sejeong, Boynextdoor, purple kiss and trendz were ones I liked quite a bit too

Mixed week for me.
Already knew:
RIIZE - this song was great and I loved it. I wasn’t sure because the prerelease single was mid to me, which is how I’ve felt about most of SM’s prereleases this year. I think it’s their strategy to release a soft GP- friendly pre-release track for each artist.

Purple Kiss - I liked this song and thought it was cute. They should have released it in the summer.

NCT U - NYCT - I would have rather had Love Sign. It’s nice and I added to my playlists but not something I’d wear out.

Blackswan - I loved this bside when it came out so glad to see it getting a proper promo.

DO - continued in his lane of mid tempo adult contemporary. Waste of a great voice IMO but that’s what he likes to do. It’s giving Justin Bieber Love Yourself vibes.

V - Slow Dancing. There’s just something about the production that doesn’t work well for me on any of these songs on V’s solo debut. The music overwhelms his voice - it’s very much in the same lane as Jaehyun’s solo work but the richness in Jaehyun’s voice (also a lower voice) suits this type of production whereas V sounds kinda tinny? He certainly has a thinner voice. Can’t explain why it doesn’t work. Like winter bear and Christmas tree were more stripped back musically and I think suited his voice better.

NEW TO ME
Boynextdoor- I get that they’re going for that rock vibe but I don’t think their vocals are very good. Big pass for me.
YoungK, Kim Sejong, FT Isla - pass, kinda boring to me.

Xodiac - I think this song had potential: I think if they had sung the chorus instead of talked it, it would have been stronger.

Rocket Punch - their songs never quite work for me. This time I think it’s the awkward rap and the nasal vocals.

Jaechan - the robotic voice is a pass for me.

trendz - more robots in parts, mostly I thinkall the parts don’t work together.

hwasa - feels like bargain Megan Trainor. She can do better.

Funnily enough I think Get a guitar is more gp-friendly lol

For me he's like kim sejeong where sure the song might be bad but the voice always lifts up the mood

I've seen someone compare him to Baekhyun (Link in case you wanna check it out, Fourth main comment) and mentions something about storytelling I think which I agree with, I don't think V, as stylish as his voice is, can really do this type of genre. Idk maybe I'm not the person to say this (I do sing and have been seeing a coach but I don't think I'm there yet) but I know he has the appreciation for it he just needs to be trained more imo.

I'm just happy that Blackswan is back again, and I kind of like Purple Kiss's song too. For V's song, it wasn't my cup of tea at all, but I can understand the appeal. I'm just not into that genre of music, but if other people like it, fantastic! What I did like was Hwasa's song. It's a good beat and message, I just wish it was a bit punchier I that makes ant sense.
