depends on the meaning of the word global - how global is "global"

I'm mostly interested in Chinese history
but people who say global do they truly mean global - ranging from the dynasties of the Chinese to the feudal lords of the Europeans to the Aborginals down under to the human sacrifices of the Aztecs to the Polynesian Wars etc etc
is someone truly interested in GLOBAL history or really just a subset of the globe

chinese? maybe a 6 at best since I'm not too fond of modern chinese history and there are aspects of history that don't interest me
for most people history is just the studying of various governments and people in charge and wars and so forth
it's so much more than that - the culture, food, clothing, household goods, etc etc all of that can be studied as history
and thus I highly doubt anyone can truly be interested (even within a country) of all those minute aspects of "history"

I didn't say that you couldn't be interested in it all I said was that those things I mentioned are generally aspects of history that isn't as widely discussed or as popular as the "governmental/political" aspect of things

I do agree it’s true people don’t often think of those when thinking of history when they should, though a 5 still seems to be a low baseline for many. Being interested in half the things in history doesn’t seem too big of a stretch. 10 would be very hard to find ofc though, I agree with that and might bump mine down to an 8 to be more conservative about it. It’s just the low baseline you said you’d doubt people on that I don’t agree with.

with all due respect vikki I don't mean to doubt your interest in history but ALL global history? an 8 out of 10 is very high

I do understand that global means the whole world, yes. I don’t really know of any area that strikes me as being clearly boring. Like if we go with what examples you gave I’ve learned parts of all of those (not necessarily a lot, but some) and was never at the stage where I considered it boring because of content (sometimes teachers can be boring, but that’s boring teachers not boring history). I also don’t necessarily see why I would like history from a select group of countries but dislike it from specific others. I do have a preference for a few areas but liking many but then disliking specific other regions? I don’t get that much. History is history to me.

I’m just not getting why not having knowledge means you aren’t interested. To me interest doesn’t mean you know everything about it, it means you want to know more about it, whether you actually go through with it and learn everything you can.
I get how people can have a connection to some countries and therefore have more interest. But say you put 5, and let’s say that applies to countries you’re interested in. Why prefer an assortment of countries around the world but find the rest, who could very well be right next to the other countries you liked, boring? There’s certain countries you may have a preference for but I can’t imagine people would have that connection with a lot of countries, just a few. So no one’s reaching above a 1 -2 in the countries aspect if they care about 1-3 countries in the whole world. Even a region would be hard to have a real connection to and you still wouldn’t be very high in regards to ranking for most typical regions.

some might like asian history to the exclusion of all others - others European or ancient European or medieval to the exclusion of other aspects or regions...
again like I said I have no interest (that's is zero for certain other countries) they just don't interest me...it's the same for me and BG in kpop - I just am not interested in getting to know more about BG - sure I can listen to their music but interested in it...zero none nada...
to me that's just a personal preference right?

Yeah I get having a preference. But some preferences imo make more sense. If someone liked the history of Spain, China, Zimbabwe, and Venezuela let’s say but found Ecuador, France, Nepal, and South Africa boring it would seem like an odd assortment of countries unless there was a deeper tie between the countries in the like group. And using you as an example, you like Chinese history because of your connections. Which makes sense, a lot of people like the countries they/their ancestors are from. But even people with families from various parts of the world don’t typically have this connection with a bunch of countries just because there’s so many and it’s hard to get your ancestors so spread out so it becomes some kind of majority. So like I said, a preference to some small number if countries due to connection isn’t likely to yield all that many countries realistically, and that’s typically the reason for most preferences I feel. Past that it gets more odd if you like the history of seemingly random countries but dislike the history of the rest seemingly random countries. Does that make sense?
