hi so i'm aroace yay how interesting !
you probably don't care but people SUCK sometimes and you might already know that. me being an aroace individual, i have faced some annoying behaviors from other people. people seem to think that not being romantically or sexually attracted to anyone is impossible. it in fact is not.

first of all people think that if you're aroace then you don't find people to be pretty or wtv. that is incorrect, just like when you look at a pretty painting you go "oh that's a pretty painting!" you don't go "omg that painting is so pretty i want to make out with it!" that's me with people. when i look at a person who is attrative i DO think they're attractive i just don't feel anything romantic or sexual towards them. i think sex is weird and idk why people would want to waste their time doing that but that's me, you do whatever you want i'm not shaming you.

second of all, being a virgin or not enjoying sex or being obsessed with it is sort of looked down on in the area i live. especially in my age group. if you've had sex then you're seen as mature or whatever but if you haven't people look at you all weird. LIKE YES IM A VIRGIN AND PROUD AND I THINK SEX IS WEIRD NOW LEAVE ME ALONE

third of all, people tell me that i'm just crazy and i'm not actually aroace because i haven't gotten to experience love or sex. HUH? why do you think i've never had a crush on someone IN MY WHOLE LIFE????? i have lived my whole life never feeling romantic or sexual attraction. it just doesn't make sense to me that you would see a person who you think is attractive and be like "oh i want to bang" ???? (again i am not shaming, just sharing my side of things)

fourth, we get almost NO representation in media and the ones that we do have are shitty ones. like i think saiki k is pretty good aroace representation but they also depict him as having no emotion at all which can cause people to get the wrong idea. WE DO HAVE EMOTION AND FEELINGS. WE HAVE A PERSONALITY !!!!!

fifth, even the lgbtq community doesn't accept us. so many people don't consider aroace to be a part of the lgbtq which is just crazy to me. some lgbtq individuals may not fully understand or be aware of aromanticism and asexuality. This lack of awareness can lead to misunderstanding and invalidation of aroace identities.

I'm not aroace, just ace (I like girls romantically) but these are unfortunately all to easy to relate to. Even when I tell people I'm lesbian vs ace (because for some people lesbian is enough of a stretch) I hear some of those, like my grandma wondering if maybe I'm just too young to realize I like dudes (I'm 23, and she admitted starting to get attraction to males in early middle school, so like 10-12). Very much not how that works

Im a hoe and bi so i dont fully understand the issues aroace are having. its dumb as fuck that its not considered part of lgbt+. Its quite ironic that a movement and a group of people who are out there shouting about their rights and how they are not treated like part of the society and then they themselfs gatekeep people like aroace like they cant sit with us.
