so during ww1 the americans really disliked the germans so many schools across the us (i think like 30-40 schools) banned german classes and even started calling hamburgers liberty sandwiches instead because they didn’t want anything associated with germany

they wanted to have freedom from the germans ig which is funny to me because they went around trying to fix/spread democracy but couldn’t fix it in their own country by making laws in which you couldn’t have freedom of speech during a war

Freedom and democracy and equality is all well and good unless it’s relating to their “enemies”. Then none of that needs to apply I looked into it and a similar thing happened with french fries too (France opposed the Iraq War and were therefore the enemy). They became freedom fries in at least some government building. Forget exactly which.

Only Murica has liberty and freedom!
