11 pounds in a week is highly concerning; i hope you're exaggerating that number because it is extreme and you really have to go out of your way to lose even half that much. as in, extreme calorie deficit, extreme exercise, dehydration and/or being seriously sick

Your mom's ex is a very bad loser. The whole case seems to be obscure and I don't think that we talk about a justified claim here. Exactly for that reason your mom should contact a lawyer. Depending on how abusive her ex is, she could even think about talking with the police. For example stalking is a prohibited act in the US too.

This was way before covid this was probably in like 2008 or 2011 cuz i was like 2 or 5 when the gym thing happened but it was 6 months ago that they started taking money of her pay stubs

I completely believe that the statue of limitations on this debt has run out. For this type of debt the statue of limitations is generally between 6 and 7 years. I could drive you to insanity going over legal stuff but it might not actually apply.

My best suggestion... you could start calling lawyers. Almost all lawyers have a free consultation. Your mother can bring all documentation she has about the debt. Worst case scenario they say they can't help you. If they can't help for financial reasons they can tell you where to go for resources. Or... This will require some courage on your part but you could remind them of the 50 hours of pro-bono work they need ever year and that this would go a long way to taking care of that. Again, worst case scenario they won't help but other than time, what have you got to lose?


That being said, I know everyone just wants to help you but no matter what we say don't feel like this is your responsibility. No one here is a lawyer, no one knows the entire story so just pass on anything useful and then leave it in your mothers court! I wish the world was perfect and you could concentrate solely on being young, getting smart and having fun but it's not. Everyone here cares and it's always hard to know someone's life is difficult when you care. Keep doing your best and being amazing.
