So as you all may or may not know, I’m Ukrainian. And today I wanted to share a few facts about Ukraine
1. It is the second-largest European country after Russia.
2. Ukraine became an independent nation in 1991 after the dissolution of the USSR.
3. The animal life of Ukraine is diverse, with about 350 species of birds, more than 100 species of mammals, and more than 200 species of fish.
4. Ukraine’s first nature reserve, Askaniya-Nova, began as a private wildlife refuge in 1875.
5. Ukrainian is a language written in the form of the Cyrillic language/alphabet.
6. Ukraine’s output of grain and potatoes is among the highest in Europe, and it is among the world’s largest producers of sugar beets and sunflower oil.
7. The national Ukrainian dish is borscht, a distinctive red soup made from beetroot and beef, despite the belief that it is chicken kiev (which actually was probably not invented in Ukraine at all).
8. Originally coloured and patterned using wax and dye, Ukraine is the originator of what we recognize today as Easter eggs
9. Arsenalna, a metro stop in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, is the second-deepest station in the world with a depth of 105.5 metres.
