You stumbled up on an Info-Hazard. This video is an excellent explanation!

This actually highlights a HUGE problem in both the music business and programming. There's only so many combinations of notes, tempo's, beats, etc before things must be repeated. Eventually every combination will be copyrighted and thus, if copy right law doesn't change we will literally run out of ways to make new music. K-Pop does so much sampling because it's gotten to the point where it's hard not to. Music copyright lasts for 70 years AFTER the authors death. Any other copy right lasts 95-120 years max. Meaning if someone produces a song young, say at 20, and lives to be a hundred years old then a copyright for that song could last 150 years. Other industries that use patents for protection only get 20ish years before their invention becomes public domain and usable by anyone and everyone. Congress actually had to pass special laws so that they could take any music, video, book, etc and place it in the library of congress with out paying for more than how ever many copies they want so that in a worst case scenario we don't lose that work as a society. The library of congress is not just a library. It's how we protect the knowledge of our society. The most important works are kept in nuclear fall out shelters capable of sustaining a direct nuclear attack. It's said that in a total nuclear war our knowledge would be the only thing to survive.

Sorry, I nerded out bad... :kokorohappy:

There's actually a group that does make music/video/photo for the public domain and also makes purchases of catalogs to put in the public domain.
