You brainwash us to believing that but we all know that cats do these things on purpose either for attention or out of boredom.

I think mine was doing it for something new and exciting to claw. Doesn't make me like it any more, but that's the best excuse I can think of. I never had to try and train him not to do it, he just grew out of it and hasn't done it in 3/4ths of a year. It was really only for a couple weeks when he was three or so months old, and he hasn't since then. Then again, he did have a cat tree, and still does, so it's not like he had/has nothing to scratch. Thankfully he didn't do it to all of them, and the ones he did do it to are fine to wear, just have a few small snags/loose threads (that are hard to cover up/fix unfortunately). It sucks, but at least I sleep easier knowing it won't happen again.

Yeah, pets are hard to train in general, especially when they're young. But I mean, younger ones are like younger humans. They're naive and don't know any better so it's to be expected. At least he's doing better now, though!

That is very true. That he is. Much nicer now. Age has mellowed him out. From six weeks to a couple months, he was pretty small, calm and perfectly happy to only live in my room. From a couple months until about half a year old, he got more energetic and more restless, constantly begging to go new places and learn and do more. This was also his clawing phase too. Since then, he still insists on exploring everything, but claws stuff way less, unless it's the harmless, playful kind. He's also calmer, sleeps more (or I just notice it more), and wants attention in the form of pets more often. He's still got a bit of his personality, but has chilled out a lot. He still gets a bit frisky once in a while, but that's to be expected with most cats, and he doesn't claw stuff too badly, and no more ruined dresses.
