The only game I play recently is called farlight 84. I almost went back to FFXIV during Christmas though.

It depends on the game. I play 7 Days To Die since about 2 years. Even daily for an hour or two if I have the time. It's like Minecraft with Zombies (it also looks more like a typical Zombie Shooter): It's an Open World Survival game with procedural generated maps. You can play solo or Co-op with friends via LAN or on internet servers. There are also many fan mods (some Total Conversation mods are nearly as large as the main game) - although 7 Days To Die is still in Early Access after 10 years of development.

My brother plays Civilization V regularly since its release in 2010. My mother still plays The Sims 2.

To be honest, it seems that the developers didn't have a plan when they began making the game. They started with a way smaller team and changed the core system of the game a few times, so it wasn't possible to use DLCs for adding new features. Development is still rather slow: You can expect 1-2 major updates per year. Nevertheless the game is already feature-packed and fully playable without major bugs (unless the developers create new ones). The latest update is Alpha 21.

I don't think that I need to write a gore warning here. You only kill Zombies in this game and there's some gore, but it's no bloody mess like Dead Island 2.

They could release it now and it would be fine as it is (more precise: it works and it makes fun for many many hours). But developers told that they will finally release the game only when it satisfies their expectations, no matter how long it takes.

Yep, I just hope their budget will be big enough to finish the game. The developer didn't make any other game so far.

yeah that would be my concern too, but the way you described it it seemed like its mainly just a side / passion project they are working on and not their main job?

Fortunately they sold over 15 Million copies of the Early Access game yet. Having said that, it's already earned money because the final version of the game will be for free when you bought the Early Access version.
