i think that jyp was trying to see what stuck and wanted to move on from the "i love myself, i'm awesome" concept because that was getting worn out
but he changed it too far with sneakers. he tried to go back with cheshire (which was NOT BAD I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL) but saw very little love for it, so returned to sneakers concept with cake.

every1 hated cake so he decided to try to go closer to the original itzy by experimenting with a song that wouldn't be consequential if it flopped. he tried out ringo, a japanese release, and then every1 said "yay we love ringo" so he made a new album now with that same vibe as ringo (born to be)

untouchable is very ITZY. mr vampire is a nice way to age them a little, because though they were teen crush, they're now full grown women. and born to be was jyp being lazy and wanting to conform to the current trend of "repeat one phrase for the whole chorus and then pat urself on the back"

idk if that bolsters the theory or not
Songs like Cake were never going to do it for me in a million years.

I hear the performance metrics on this comeback are dreadful though, so I think catering to my tastes is a huge financial mistake. (see also: Twice, Scientist)

I feel like last comeback they had 2 of their best songs in a long time with Psychic Lover and Kill Shot but they chose 3 other songs over them and left those as b-sides, I feel like that was a big missed opportunity
