It's actually mostly even right now (or at least we don't have the data to know yet).

Reason being that the carbon footprint of the running and manufacturing of electric vehicles basically equalizes the same from a gas powered vehicle for many years. This is due to the carbon emissions needed to generate that electricity in the first place.

How much CO2 is emitted by manufacturing batteries?

It depends exactly where and how the battery is made—but when it comes to clean technologies like electric cars and solar power, even the dirtiest batteries emit less CO2 than using no battery at all.
