My favourite region of Japan is the Tohoku Region (north east Honshu). You can find some of Japan's most beautiful nature scenery here, with breath taking mountain ranges and beautiful coastal areas. The Tohoku region is also rich in culture from former samurai/castle towns and impressive shrines and temples. The food is also incredibly in the Tohoku region.
And one of the best parts of all? Not many foreign tourists visit the Tohoku region. So it's not overcrowded with tourists. A problem that you'll find in places such as Kyoto.
