Musique concrète (literally translating to "concrete music") is the art of utilising recorded samples to create music which originated in France in the 1920s & 1930s.
It features sounds derived from recordings of musical instruments, the human voice, & the natural environment as well as those created by synthesizers & computer-based digital signal processing.
Compositions are not restricted to common musical rules.
It exploits acousmatic listening, meaning sound identities can often be intentionally obscured or appear unconnected to their source cause.
