What's the scariest experience you've had while driving? (1 Viewer)

When I was 16 and just got my license, no one ever taught me how to drive on ice so that first winter was my first experience alone with it. Long story short, I took a turn way too fast, slammed on my breaks, and did a 270° turn in my vehicle before coming to a stop in the opposite lane.

Whenever I recall that moment, I am thankful there was no one at that 4-way stoplight for me to hit. The road and location I was in was one where if there had been a single car coming toward me, I would have hit them. This was very much a 'turn the radio off and drive home in silence' moment.

I got hit by a car while merging onto the interstate once. It scraped down the side of my vehicle, so it mostly startled the crap out of me.

More recently, I had a car pass me on the right that had to be going at least 90. I could see that a car a few places in front of me was trying to merge in to the middle lane, and Mr 90 can't see him as he's ducking around traffic. Mr 90 swerves to avoid hitting the merging car, but overcorrects and shoots off the side of the interstate down a steep hill. I didn't see on the news later that anyone had died, so I guess Mr 90 survived. It was a good reminder that the 2 minutes he was saving by driving like a maniac could never be worth the risks.

I'm so glad you're okay after that collision, and yeah that sounds terrifying for Mr 90 and everyone around to see it happen. There's no reason to drive like a maniac, it's truly not worth the risks

Yeah, I really don't get people who get really bad road rage. I get that it can be stressful, but people be insane sometimes. My cousin has gotten into fights with people while driving, like she told me a story once about how she was throwing trash out of her car at someone else's car and they were doing the same back to her.

And I'm just like... but why? What could possibly be worth starting something with a lunatic? If someone wants in front of my car that bad, then go for it, they can be there. I just want to get home.

Thank you, sadly, that wasn't even the first time I'd had a gun pulled on me or possibly been shot at. I survived. Seriously, I don't miss California.

I wasn't the driver, but a passenger in this scenario. My dad was taking me to see 1D in Indy (it's a couple hours' drive from where I live), and we were downtown and about to make our last turn before we reached the venue when this complete asshat ran a red light, causing us to T-bone him. I walked away with just a sore neck, but my dad was traumatized into never wanting to set foot in Indy again.

In the aftermath, I remember my dad saying he thought we might miss the concert, and then I was ugly-crying in the backseat, calling the guy so many names, while we waited for the cops. We did end up making it, though, thanks to a very kind cop who offered a lift. We missed the opening act, but it's alright bc it wasn't exactly a fave of mine.

I'm so sorry for both you and your dad :( it's a good thing you both were OK and still made it to that destination. Hopefully if you go back you can Uber instead

Not me but a friend had a motorcycle and he almost hit a deer while I was on the back.
And he actually did hit one a year later and got horrible abrasions and a broken clavicle. He’s alive, doing good, and still riding bikes.

Damn. Respect on your friend bc I'm sure that runs through his head every time he goes out. I stan your uncle bc that sounds traumatic luckily I've never hit any deer, I've always been in scenarios where I can swerve to avoid them - a week or 2 ago I had to swerve around one while going to work 🧍‍♀ they just stand there and look at you, like hello, get lost?!
