can I ask in terms of the gift giving who gives what to whom and how much and so forth?

for context during Chinese New Year the older family and friends give money to the younger children

now the definition of children and "older" family differs from region to region but in mine it was the married "adult" couples who would give money to the unmarried "children"

this was because traditionally marriage symbolised stability in terms of finances

That’s very interesting and we do that too!! (Some) Aunties give us (kids) money on Eid but we mostly give gifts

But the side of the family I bought gifts for doesn’t really hand out money or gifts to everyone, my cousins and I give each other a little something because we’re really really *really* close together. That side of the family is more relaxed about the gift giving and focuses on the family aspect of Eid more. We’d have so many cakes and pastries made by my mom and aunties that the time spend together at my grandparents house with so many different generations in one appartement is kind of the gift you receive . And I wouldnt have it any other way tbh. It’s always so much fun at my grandparents’ especially when grandma whips out her famous couscous/tajine
