What is your opinion on idols who drink Starbucks? (1 Viewer)

For context, many people are currently boycotting Starbucks because yhe dispute between the union and Starbucks over the latest Israel-Hamas war led to calls from U.S. consumers to boycott the brand, both on social media and in demonstrations.
Demonstrators and boycott activists have accused the company of supporting genocide.

Yunjin of Le Sserafim was recently caught drinking Starbucks, and then also Chuu of Loona, along with many more idols. Do you believe these idols should be canceled for this? ​

I think it's not my business what they do in their lives. I drink Starbucks but even if I didn't it still boils down to one simple fact. I have no right to judge what they do. I do not own them, they do not owe me or anyone else an explanation. They have the right to live their life how they see fit. It's coffee, not weapons or politics.

Also, accusations are like assholes. Everyone's got one against them. Show the evidence. I want to see the special forces barista's killing people with coffee straws. Canada like the US believes in innocent until proven guilty. An accusation is useless. There must be hard evidence.

I have said this many many times about cancel culture

everyone is free to cancel, boycott (and vice versa defend and not boycott) - it's your free will to do whatever the F you want...

and if enough people do it - well that's just democracy no?

i think attacking them saying "she/he drinks starbucks so she/he supports isreal" is a bit too much. all they did was order a drink i think cancelling them is too much. but if they are uneducated that's a different story. i really don't mind them doing that because it is their life.

Completely agree with all of this, and this is pretty much how I feel. One caveat I will add for my perspective is that I think we should spread the information so people who aren't as active online can see it and come to their own conclusions and opinions about it. Also, while it's not a big deal to me, for some other people it might be. I think the best way to handle it if it bothers you would be to politely yet firmly say that you're disappointed in said idol and why (you can withdraw monetary support over them if it's that big of a deal to you, you do you), but without raking them over the metaphorical coals. They deal with far too much hate already, and taking something like this too far could just cause them to become defensive or irritated at the fans.

PS: My use of the word "you" in here refers to K-Pop fans in general, not @void specifically, just so one one misinterprets what I meant.

Very and absolutely disappointing, but unfortunately Starbucks is very popular. Right when they drop in cash suddenly a new cup is out and everything is buying it so ofc they will. I will hold them accountable for their stupid actions but I won't harass them for it, I will give my love to idols who actually have the bravery to support. So yeah, no death threats needed, are you better than Israel if you are doing that?

And what if they just like Starbucks in general and have no stance with the war, to only be told that you'll be supporting war and you've already chosen who to side with?! They haven't said nor even stated if they have anything against the war.
Plus, if the Boycott was working, I think Starbucks would be out of business

That's a bit of a high bar. The goal of most political action isn't to destroy but to persuade. Or to impose a cost on "negative" actions.
In the case of Starbucks and Macdonald's, both have missed their targets and downgraded their expectations, although slower growth is still growth I suppose.

Anyone who is under the illusion that boycotts are completely ineffective in these scenarios needs to consider their effect on apartheid South Africa.

In a marketised, capitalist society, your strongest participation in political culture is not ticking a box between two neolibs every four years. It's what you buy.

Having said that, I have no opinion.

yes i think that they should be held accountable because innocent live are being lost. i don't support idols who support boycotted brands but as others stated above, i'm not gonna go and harass them. also saying that some idols might be uneducated on the boycott seems a bit strange to me because this is national new sweetie.
i think that if you have a certain platform where you are influential to lots of people, you SHOULD be educated on topics like these especially with the size of everything that's going on. now with yunjin, the way she keeps flaunting her starbucks pisses me off. it's been more than one time and her comments are flooded with people telling her what she's doing wrong so idk why the point is not getting across. not drinking starbucks is NOT going to kill you, there's so many other places to buy from.
people who are pro-palestine are losing their jobs and a palestinian child was stabbed and died SIMPLY for being palestinian. these idols will be fine being cancelled for 2 seconds cause everyone will forget about. but i've also seen this excuse used just to cancel idols or start fanwars. most people who do this don't even care about the lives being lost and are just excited to see another excuse to start fanwars and cancel people.
