Iran had a leader they elected, but this leader wasn't so friendly to the Americans and the English about the oil they could get from the country (volume, price, that type of thing), so they got their intelligence branches to kick out that leader and put into place a king who listened more to their orders: that coup was Operation Ajax

you see similar patterns emerge a lot in Latin America, Africa, etc, fun neocolonialism times

not so fun fact: Dole (behind those fruit cups, pineapples, etc) overthrew the Hawaiian monarchy with the not so secret support of the US
in Latin America, many banana companies engaged in similar tactics discrediting local governments to keep things good for themselves and keep exploiting the rest of the region; that's where the term banana republic is drawn
