i parked my car at this store and got out and these kids next to me started cursing at me so i told them off and they got mad and started running after me and followed me into the store saying they’re gonna kill me so i had an employee walk me out to my car

this 100%. even if you're not outnumbered, best to never ever engage with strangers who confront you out of nowhere like that. there's a lot of violent crazies out there with zero impulse control. that's why i always beg people not to react when they deal with road ragers; people have gotten seriously injured and worse over essentially non-issues

im glad you're save, above anything please always look out for yourself. it's never worth it, you never know what strangers are capable of

Then they probably searched for someone to 'work off' their anger. Avoid such people, but don't seem to be a victim. Head up, chest out, shoulders back, relaxed walk. Look around unimpressed, but don't look in their eyes, better ignore those people completely. If you can walk with a group of people, do it.

Your body language alone can make the difference between getting in trouble and staying safe in public. My former Krav Maga instructor often said: wolves search for sheep, they don't search for sheepdogs.
