They’ve historically used 3 forms of alphabets within the country: one Latin based, one Cyrillic, and one Arabic based. The first two aren’t surprising, but to me the Arabic one was unexpected :sanapray:

Russia is famous for ballet and they border Belarus so close enough :scree:
As for the Arabic part some areas in Europe do have some Arabic, Mongolian/tatar, or Turkish influence. A lot of Russian indigenous languages are influenced by Turks or tatars/mongolians for example, and I believe the Arabic script was spread through Belarus by the Tatars. That dates al the way back to the times of the Mongolian conquests, which made its way to East Europe. I’m not positive why in Russia the Arabic script didn’t become as widespread, maybe it did and I just didn’t know about it, or maybe the groups in Russia were different branches or something. But I do know that the Russian word for tea (chai) is a variation that likely comes from Central Asia, deriving from the northern Chinese word for tea (cha) :sakUwu: And likely also comes from those invasions

It’s a pretty common name for tea in Eurasia :sakUwu: not to geek out too much but I’ve seen this before and found the difference between the words tea and cha/chai interesting
