And I think it's probably been the most traumatic experience in my life, so I'm going to tell you about it.
It happened suddenly, he got a blood clot in his spine that paralyzed him from the waist down. He was in a lot of pain and unfortunately the nearest emergency vet to us that was open at the time was an hour and a half away.
The hardest part is that I keep asking "why?" but the truth is that there is no "why" because it just "is". And I think that's just the worst. My baby was 5 years old - the youngest I've ever lost a cat. It's so unfair and I hate it.
I will never get his cries out of my mind. I will never get the image of him trying and failing to stand out of my mind.
