I have to have some broken teeth removed on Friday (from eating hard nuts like whole almonds and stuff). This is my first oral surgery since my wisdom tooth removal in 2005, so I'm a little nervous how it will go. If you can give me recovery tips (what to do, how long will it take, how long...

well, that got pushed back to September 13th. Guys, this is my first surgery in almost 20 years! They said I might be in pain for the first three days, and I'm not ready!

maybe you just have the wrong dentist? My first dentist experience was hella scary. I would literally scream and cry and then throw up after the appointment. So we ended up switching dentists, and then it was like night and day.

wow that was exactly my experience growing up and ever since then i've been scared. i got a new dentist but the traumatic experience still makes me nervous

Everyone's different regarding pain tolerance, but standard painkillers (not the strong ones they give you in hospitals) should be effective enough after the surgery. Normally you don't have that much pain because the dental nerve is gone too. There might be some pain afterwards because of the wound - especially when you eat, but it should be nothing to worry about. Avoid too hot food, spicy meals and drinks with carbonic acid. You could suck on ice cubes, cooling helps calming the wound.

I thought you were only going to be in pain for three days hence my question but if three days it is - then that's not too bad

my son had surgery 6 weeks ago (albeit totally different surgery to what you're having) and although the pain went away within a month he's still technically recovering
