labeling as sensitive since it could possibly bring up triggering topics^^

according to NCBI "A study of 1,575 respondents found that 77% recovered from PTSD within 10 years, with 20% recovering within 3 months and 27% recovering within 6 months."

and 90% of general trauma patients recover, only 10% not doing so.

so what do you think? are there cases where a person is so broken, so traumatized, that they cannot overcome, cannot heal?

i was thinking about this after reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. i've been thinking about that book ever since i read it and it really shifted something in my mind.

i wanna know what you guys think since this is a really difficult question to answer for me

For sure there could be. People are sick fucks and can cause immense pain to eahother. However i think the problem is most ppl are afraid to ask for help.

yes. asking for help can be a scary step since in certain cases, people might feel ashamed of what they went through and opening up to others can be terrifying

Personally I believe that everyone has the capability to function to the best of their ability. I don’t think we should try to “fix” anyone, but instead find strategies that work. I don’t think anyone can be a total lost cause. I may be too optimistic but I think almost anyone can have a redemption arc

no i think that's a beautiful way to think
and i agree instead of fixing those people we need to just simply be there for them

yes bodies heal but trauma...sometimes it never can

I think with trauma one can learn to deal with it but as long as the memories remain it can be hard to forget completely

I completely agree 🙏🏼
it is also one of the fundamental reasons why I think certain types of abuse (sexual or otherwise) is so much worse than death

death is a finality - game over - but when trauma it can be everlasting

everybody is different - obviously some people heal and get over it and with others it's going to affect them for the rest of their lives

for some its easy to be able to get over what happened but for others (including myself) its more difficult

I completely empathize with your situation my friend
I personally was bullied when I was younger (primary school) but the entire ordeal made me angry and want to be better which lead to me being more resilient (it's also a trait that I really value in people)
but that's just me and therefore I never judge others who went through a similar or even different situation

Yeah, for real. And some ppl rather just push down the hurt than to open it up
and for some people they get used to the pain and end up not wanting to get better because the pain is all they've ever known
it reminds me of this one quote from this book i read

"And who would I be without them? Even now, he sometimes wondered this. Who would he be without the scars, without the cuts, without the damage?"

I would be one of those.

I cannot be truly fixed
but can deal and manage quite well most of the time.

trauma and embarrassment cuts deeper than the knife
