When people say stuff like “it’s all natural” or “it’s bad because it has chemicals”. I get they want to say all natural is default good (it’s not) and that chemicals doesn’t mean chemicals, it means certain chemicals not commonly encountered in the form used in the product in nature (though a lot of “chemicals” are found in that form) and only meaning ones that are known to have certain bad effects on humans, in particular associated with harsher things like bleach, and that’s what chemicals means. But that’s a whole lot of qualifiers isn’t it? Why are we using the word chemicals to describe a very very very specific bad form of chemicals? It just feels confusing and inconvenient to me. At this point, I could find people who are into all natural stuff and whatnot (the ones who don’t have an understanding of what it means) and tell them I found a form of sustenance marketed as healthy that is jam packed with chemicals, and that they shouldn’t eat it ever because people have died from eating it. And then they’d boycott oranges because of the health dangers or chemicals. Those are buzz words, but because they have actual meanings, people can twist things to get others on their side so so easily
