They were actually excited to have finally found out. They long suspected the signals were from earth based on their strength, and did suspect the microwave as the culprit for quite a while too. For them what was hard was finding out what exact process with the microwave caused the waves to be let out and picked up by the sensor, since it wasn’t just whenever the microwave was used. So when when they found it it was a thank god we finally got it feeling probably

I doubt it was the exact microwave, I think it was the fact that there was a microwave on the break room and that microwaves work under the same principles as back then
