I also have a story for that...
So I adopted a hamster from a retired college professor at my university. I must have a thing for "imperfect pets" because the hamster was born blind and is already old. Hamsters only have a life expectancy of about 2 years and it was already approaching 2 years but the professor didnt have time to take care of it and warned me there wasnt much time left.
So I took it in and decided to give it the best life, of whatever remainder it have.
I gave the hamster a very special name "Faith" because it was blind, it could never know what was immediately infront of her, she just have to trust in faith that she wont walk into something dangerous.
Of all the years I've taken care of pets, I've never had one die on me except this one because of old age. My ex at the time just made fun of me cuz I was crying over a hamster. I was fine when Faith passed, maybe it was denial. She would keep me up all night because as old as she was, she loved her hamster wheel and those cheap plastic that they make it with has no sound dampening and it just noisy as hell.
When night time came and it was completely silent...I just broke down and balled my eyes out (hamsters are nocturnal, they only run around at night)
