I have most done, but not all. I did manage to finish the shopping for my dad, who’s the hardest one, so there’s that

It's nice to get the difficult-to-buy-for people out of the way! Dad's usually the hardest for me too, especially since he never gives the slightest hint about what his current preferences are.



I decided this year to go with a theme for the gifts, and then everyone in my immediate family gets an item per theme: something mundane (but nice), a self-care item, a candle, something to drink, and something to entertain.

And then my extended family is doing a "white elephant" exchange for the first time, and since I have a bunch of random shit I bought at book stores this year, I made it a "cozy book store basket" and added a couple of nice items to round it out and make it seem more intentional.

Almost finished. I just need to help my dad order something online for my mom (he has never made an online purchase in his life, and what he wants to get her cannot be purchased from a store)

He doesn’t own a phone, so he has never shopped online. He does have a laptop but that is reserved for his habits (watching music videos, checking hockey statistics, playing online poker, etc). He also has no social media.

I still have yet to walk him through the steps of ordering online, will update with how that goes.

That's so nice of you! It's fascinating having these reminders of how different generations interact with technology. My next door neighbor finally got a flip phone this year. He just lived with landline calls!

It’s even interesting seeing the generational differences between my mom and dad (Gen X vs Baby Boomer). We have a landline for my dad in case of emergencies. Mom and I both have mobile phones. I remember my dad being so happy when he learned how to add something to the favourites bar on his laptop. So online shopping with him for my mom will be interesting. He wants to get my mom a spa certificate.
