So, I kinda feel like the kpop groups who are debuting these days are kinda lacking something special.
I became a fan at second generation and I was so amazed by the groups, I was a fan of almost everyone. When I found a new group I wanted to know everything about them.
But now there isn't a group who really catched my eye. Besides Loona, Everglow, Kahn or 3YE. NeonPunch was good too but now Terry is gone so I don't really care anymore, I don't even get hyped about the members anymore, the last group I was interested in the members was Loona.
But I also get bored of the songs quickly and only listen to the same stuff to be honest.
The magic kinda disappeared?
Kpop was kinda like a little world I could escape to but it became kinda trivial.
Everything was just more exciting and now second gen is dying :yolk:
Or is it just me? Maybe I grew out of kpop or maybe I'm to fed up with it.

What is your opinion?

It's probably because back when you first discovered Kpop, it was fresh, new and exciting. You were on this new adventure in music. However, now that you've been exposed to it for quite a while, you know the formulas, the personalities and musical directions. Nothing is standing out to you because there's nothing to stand out. It's all been done before. Tbh most ACTUAL second gen fans I know have moved on from Kpop or are just casual listeners now because there's nothing else for them to see. There's just a handful, including myself, who stay because we found that group to make us stay. Who knows if I'd stay once GFriend's contract is over because like you, no group has really attracted me yet.

I will say that there are people who've taken a hiatus from Kpop and comeback to re-discover the "magic". Maybe that'll help? :)

I’m a second gen fan too and I feel the same. And I completely agree with @StarWarsBitch I’m still around waiting for my old groups and enjoying comebacks here and there.
Tho gonna say I think most groups rn jump to the current trends waiting for an easy hit, which makes things even more boring an repetitive. Thats why when groups do something different to the trend its like fresh air (even when it is not completely new). I feel older groups were more risky and experimental? But maybe it’s just nostalgia.

it's probably because of how over-saturated the market has gotten. it feels like some groups have the exact same style/concept/vibe and don't do anything to stand out. companies are also super money-driven and have figured out most formulas to success by now so there's not much innovation and risk-taking anymore. they just stick to what's safe and what gets them a quick buck.

but i think there's still some interesting rookies, you might just be a bit worn out since you've been around for a long time.

Perhaps it's not a matter of generation but a matter of having enough charisma and enough ability to convey emotions and build that special link with the public/fans ? If a song sounds too mechanical, technically perfect but emotionally empty , then there's something lacking ?

It's not only in Kpop but in every other arts ?

I think part of it is just how saturated the market is now, it makes it difficult for groups to be able to do something new because everyone has done everything already. Also its just easier to relate to everyone when theres only a few groups abd they do activities together. Back the of you try to think of great dancers 4 or 5 groups come to mind and now if I do I immediately think of 14 or 15, which is also another way they just end up blending together.

I would argue lack of shows and variety appearance. We got to see so much of SuJu, SHINee, Infinite, etc. that helped us to connect and feel closer to these idols. We've replaced these fun shows with competitions that didn't give fair airing time and kpop groups focused more on looks, dance, and trying to find a new sound to stick out of Kpop. 2nd gens like SHINee Relay, Fx Pink Tape, Tara Bo Peep, SuJu Sorry Sorry, B1A4 OK etc ALL had a similar sound that made up the uniqueness of KPOP. 2ne1, Big Bang, BAP, and Block B brought hip-hop but still kept to the kpop-like sound (which is why I disagree Blackpink is a 2ne1 2.0, if you gave 2ne1 a BP song it'd be so out of their norm).

What we have nowadays are people trying to make western-like k-pop groups. It's like globalization but instead of introducing spices into the world of cooking, we're introducing the popularity of western sounds into Kpop.

Well I guess you're right.
And even now with EXID going on hiatus, it won't be the same anymore :pepecry1:
I just hope my girl LE makes her solo debut soon.
Or any other EXID member.

Maybe a break is good. Guess it's time to move back to American Hip-Hop again :joshmeh:

I can relate so much to your last sentence.

As others have said, the market is just saturated at this point. There are good music releases and performances out there, they're just way harder to find.
I used to try to discover as many nugu groups as I could but not really anymore. Unless I see it accidentally. It's just frustrating to like a group which is inactive or disbands after a few songs, mostly after the first one.

the main reason I stopping listening to western music is due to the same sound coming from every song with a typical beat drop. this lead me into Kpop around 2014. but alas, im feeling more and more like groups nowadays are going down the same path. they are simply trying to make it big with a typical sound than put out good music. and the groups that do put out more experimental sounds aren't received as well... this isn't really the groups fault per say, more of a company flaw. I just wish there were more groups like shinee, exo, vixx, red velvet, etc that change up their sound and go outside of what were used too..

Its the drive to be the best
They are all nearly riding on the back of another group what did well
Plus alot groups are not bothered to be as big as bts they can nearly all survive on a smaller level now due to kpop being in more than korea you dont need to be the best for ur group to earn enough money

TXT - BTS
ITZY/STRAYKIDS - TWICE
NCT - EXO
Blackpink - Bigbang [Yes blackpink are big but people did compare them at debut and were given a boast due to it]
