It's funny because it's true. YGE getting the benefit that the girls will all have new solo songs to play on the tour.

Yep, going to take a while before BabyMonster pays off. And looking at their other acts, they have AkMu, who charts well but doesn't sell well and hasn't been active; Winner, who isn't currently active, and they've only done one solo release in the past year; Eun Jiwon, who hasn't released anything since 2019; and Treasure, who sells okay, but doesn't chart well, and hasn't been particularly active either.

It's like YGE hasn't quite caught up that not every act can be like Big Bang and drop a song out of nowhere and dominate all the charts. And supposedly they have another group debuting this year... you'd think they could put a smidge more effort into their current roster with established fanbases.

I agree that they don't have any acts at the moment that is rivaling other company's top groups however I will add that 2ne1 is touring under YG's banner so they are making money from that

the thing with your final sentence though is interesting and I'm not a kpop expert but it would be interesting to see whether it is better from an established company's perspective to debut a new group or pour money into an existing group

we have seen from groups like Loona for example that pouring money into a group isn't guarantee of success

That's fair! It'd be interesting to run some calculations, and against different companies. I have to imagine there's a threshold where the delays between releases end up being too long, it's not going to necessarily give that bang for your buck anymore. I'm sure someone with the data could figure out the exact point at which you pour money into a group, stabilize with steady releases that aren't so frequent as to interfere with touring and CFs (often the real moneymakers), and fund the next debut. Or cut your losses when it becomes apparent the group isn't going to take off.

maybe say a group like Treasure (with all due respect to Treasure) they just haven't captured the GP as much compared to their BG seniors and their peers whereas BM seem to be on the cusp of going to the next level

100%. I could see them focusing Treasure on Japan, where they've been much better received and it seems like fewer big groups are making as much a focus on jpop releases these days, and BM just needs the right song now.
