Like okay it makes food pretty I guess but it’s so expensive and I heard it has no flavour. Why do people waste their money on stupid stuff like this?​

To make the food look pretty.

The two-pronged idea that it shows you are able to afford it (basically bragging), and the idea that you eat with your eyes first, so pretty food can end up tasting "better"

They probably have so much money they don’t think about the price much. But also the idea of buying food exclusively for decoration is common. It’s usually cheaper stuff, like sprinkles and food coloring, but if you’re rich enough then it’s probably not much different.

I've seen the idea floated around that you'd eat all the gold flakes, and then go home and sort out the stuff that comes out for said gold flakes.

Gold can get expensive quick. 1 gram can run you up about 90 dollars.

Edit: the idea is to try to get a rich person to date you and eat those gold plated things. I never saw the utility of looking around the product of my colon until that idea floated around.
