K-Pop is a music genre that celebrates the youth cult. I guess the K-Pop industry didn't plan that even mummies like me listen to their groups. Having said that, I wouldn't stan minor idols. It would feel wrong to me.

I dont blame you, i understand and i am not sending you to hell. I have overall difficulties to accept i will be 30 in a year and i feel like im already a creepy old man. Its just how i feel about myself

You are reading my thoughts right now. I'm at the point where I feel too old to stan groups. All the idols used to be older than me when I first started listening

yeah, its inevitable, for all us. Our Love of Kpop has kept us around, for all the good reasons <3
however, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that at some point in the future, I'll consider calling it an adventure. I'm not there yet, we'll see (thought I was but came back).

I feel like it may be a bit more common now, but not as much as it seems. Can we think of more groups now that debut minors than groups debuting with minors in 2008-2013 let’s say? Yeah. But I think it’s very safe to say that we can think of way more groups debuting now in general than groups that debuted in that time period too because now we only really remember the most famous groups from then, unlike now. And even as is it’s really easy to name people who debuted as minors in the past, including 13 and 14 year olds. So while I think the percentages of groups that debut with minors may be a bit higher now, I don’t think it’s really quite as big of a difference as it initially seems.

I think you put it best, not really the industry has changed, but the perception the people today have of the past.

I was not around myself to judge, but every time I see this discussion I see a lot of examples brought up that made me believe, it was not very different in the past.

kpop groups (especially female ones) have an expiration date whether one wants to or not

in the entire history of kpop groups only 4 groups (Dreamcatcher, Mamamoo, Twice, Blackpink) have had all members who started sign with the company that they debuted with

there are many reasons why groups disband - different directions, getting older, scandals, starting a family, wanting to get out of the entertainment industry etc etc and therefore individually as a female kpop idol you only have a certain amount of time to perform as a kpop idol

and therefore the younger one debuts the more time to earn $$$ - count of the number of female kpop idols who are still in the business in their thirties or forties and then count how many of them are "successful"

WY debuted in izone at 13 (or was it 14) and if she had a standard 7 year contract then she would still be younger than the likes of jisoo/irene/nayeon when they debuted - that's an entire contract's worth of earnings

I appreciate the breakdown but the main reason Agencies debut 14-yr olds is because they can exercise more control over them, especially after parents have signed the release forms and consented to pretty much everything (including PS). Adults are stubborn and hard to manage whereas teens see (or don't see) things differently. No need to watch the gazillion testmonies about Idol life on YT, we all know who's running the show and it sure as heck isn't them. So in my humble opinion, this sad part of the Kpop realm, I could live without. I'll leave it at that, I don't want to sound negative. After all, I'm in here. So be it and good luck to all of them! I've said it before but HIRE a bloody lawyer before you sign anything (from the trainee contract to a debut contract) and if you cannot afford a lawyer - you cannot afford to give up the next 7 years (plus training) of your life under a potential slave contract

I also agree however then you (and the parents mostly) bear the responsibility for most things that go south...
if you enter into things that you aren't 100 informed in or sure of then the risk of the lack of knowledge is on you - nobody will (ok SHOULD) buy a car or a house without reading the contract or inspecting it right? why anybody would sign a kpop contract that they don't know the contents of is beyond me but if they so choose to then they bear the risk of it...

If the kid is like please mom and dad let me join this "no name nugu agency" I want to be the next wonyoung/jungkook then the parents seriously need to reconsider their parenting choices

i will follow a new groups music if i really like it. but i overall dont bias kpop idols like i did in my teens and early twenties

same with me idk hearing how companies r behind the curtains i dont like i got into kpop late so i didnt experince really any kpop group i stan when they were minors
