I've heard of pi (3.14) but never in terms of 22/7. I take it thats an improper faction of pi?

I have a genuine question cuz what if it's 04/02/2020
Is it the 4th of February or the second of April? This is why i think going from the smallest time to the largest is the best, that way you don't get confused

what if i say both ok but i guess i find it more intuitive as that's what i grew up using and also bc of what @seungfloral mentioned above! to me, writing it in ascending order just makes more sense LOL but honestly i think it all boils down to preference tbh

dd/mm/yyyy because that's what i'm used to. even when speaking i'd say 14th march, rather than march 14th. that's how i'd write it too, when writing dates in words. nothing really against mm/dd/yyyy, and i'm ngl yyyy/mm/dd is pretty cool. but i think it really depends on how you were raised, even your spoken language changes that way.

We always celebrated pi day in school We’d get free little pies, and sometimes do a fun activity related to it or whatever. And we’d have competitions to see who could recite the most digits of pi. This year the town library also gave out little pies too.

i mean i don't celebrate pi day either, i was just pointing out that it's possible to celebrate if you really care about it and if you use dd/mm hahaha. anyway it's really more of an excuse to eat pie so 🤷‍♀️ who's gonna pass on that?

I can't believe MM/DD/YYY is literally an option, it's out of order. YYYY/MM/DD or DD/MM/YYYY makes way more sense

I’ve yet to see a reason for those making more sense for me personally I didn’t grow up with either of them granted

I think it's because months are in the middle so it just doesn't make sense for it to start. Like DD -> YYYY goes from smallest to largest, YYYY -> DD goes from largest, why MM -> ???

In English I think it’s more common to say the month, then day, then year whenever talking about dates. So if you already think of dates in that order, why not write it down in that order? Like if you write out the date fully, with the whole month and such, you’d write it in the same order that you think it, so why not write dates in the same order that you think them numerically too? I’d think that may be at least partially why the US uses month first, although not the only factor ofc.

That’s possible, I’m not English so I haven’t heard how English people say it much. Though specifically stuff like poetry isn’t a good example imo because poetry often uses non standard word orders and such for the sake of rhythm and rhyme, so it’s not always a good reflection on common speech

It's how we say it. Or at least used to, a lot of Americanisms have drifted into our speech since the internet became a thing. But I'm pretty sure most people here still put the day before the month in speech.

That makes sense if I say it like that cause British, Aussie, yeah
