In 44BC Julius Caesar was stabbed to death by a group led by Marcus Junius Brutus.

In 1493 Christopher Columbus returned to Spain after his first voyage to the New World

In 1781 the Battle of Guilford Court House took place. It was a pivotal engagement in the American Revolutionary War where General Nathanael Greene’s Continental forces inflicted heavy losses on General Cornwallis’s British army, ultimately weakening British control in the South despite their tactical victory.

In 1823 American sailor Benjamin Morrell reported the existence of New South Greenland, a phantom island, near Antarctica

In 1907 Finland became the first European country to give women the right to vote

In 1917 Tsar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate in the February Revolution ending three centuries of Romanov rule

In 1930 the first streamlined submarine of the US Navy was launched, the USS Nautilus

In 1937 the first American blood bank in a hospital is opened at Cook County Hospital in Chicago

In 1984 Tanzania adopts their constitution

In 1992 the UN offically embarks on its largest peacekeeping operation
